My 1st Trip with Laughing Gas

Today I had to get 2 fillings. Something that was totally new to me! In my 22 years, the only thing I had done with my teeth was braces and get some teeth pulled. So I was nervous!

The last time I went to my dentist, they asked me if I'd like to have laughing gas for my filling procedure. To help with any anxiety. I said sure!

Joey has had laughing gas and he said it will make you feel tingly and as if you were a little tipsy.

**Disclaimer: None of this is my dentist's fault! I started going to this dentist...well the 1st time was the cleaning where they said I need fillings. However Joey has been going to her for years and loves it! I really love this dental office! The people are so sweet! The dentist goes to my church and we both know her really well! Plus the staff  know you by name! Yes, it's that nice! :)

Ok I just wanted to say that so no one thinks I have a crazy dentist!

Let me remind you this was my very first time to get laughing gas.

I get the laughing gas thing put on my nose. She told me that some people feel tingly and some start to giggle.

Here are my thoughts that followed:

"Wow, this is nice, I don't feel nervous!"

- Then I started feeling tingly.
       "That is kinda weird"

- Then it gets to the point where I am sleepy. I have a hard time keeping my eyes open, but when I do I see them working over me.
" This must be the closest thing to getting abducted by aliens feels like." (Just seeing glimpses of light and them standing over you while you seem to be strangely sleepy)

- Then it got scary! I couldn't feel myself breathing. I knew I was, but I couldn't feel my stomach moving.
My thought: "I know I am breathing because it is impossible to just stop without something else being wrong. You can't just hold your breath and die, your brain kicks in and you start breathing again."

At that point I couldn't really feel my limbs. I would move them around a little and I could feel the chair. The nurse helping told me to just keep breathing in and out and I'd feel normal again. The dentist asked if the gas was too high, I nodded and she turned it down. That was the 2nd time it got turned down.

She was close to done when that happened. So I think they basically turned it to the lowest setting. They were just doing the filling cement stuff part.

I guess a nice thing about the laughing gas was that while she was drilling was when I had the scary "I don't think I'm breathing" moments. So I didn't even feel it! She only had to drill in the enamel, so I didn't have to get the numbing shot! (yay!)

It took about 20 minutes for me to get 2 fillings done!

I was so happy to hear that she understood why I had a little freak out. She said that some people get really scared when they don't feel in control - referring to the gas. Which I think is what happened to me!

This post was just to record my crazy laughing gas thoughts! :) To remind myself, if there is a next time...no laughing gas for me!

Have a great Monday!
