Comic Books!

So my new favorite thing that I LOVE to do is read comic books! It all started with seeing The Avengers.  After seeing The Avengers (twice - it was awesome), I thought about getting into comics to see if I liked them.

I told Joey and he found out that on May 4th it is Free Comic Book Day!! Yep! A day where you go to the comic book store and they have free issues out for you to pick from!

So when May 4th rolled around, we went to the nearest comic bookstore. Then we went to 2 other stores!

Here is what we got!

I had watched a show by Revision 3 called Variant, which talks about comic books.
He talked about the Avengers vs. X- Men as a really good series. So I bought those 2.
(One is a Variant cover - or rare- since they didn't have #1 in normal)
The other 5 were free!!

I was SUPER excited.

The more and more I read about Avengers vs. X-Men, the more I wanted to know about a certain character that shows up in the story. I've never heard of that character before.

So in order to get the back story on that character I got a few graphic novels (which are a bunch of comic books put into one bigger book- can be much cheaper than buying them separate).

A few weeks pass. I get the new Avengers Vs. X-Men every 2 weeks when they release.

Then one day I hear on the radio about Comicpalooza! Joey heard about it too. It's Houston's Comic Book Convention, like our ComicCon. Um, yes please!

So off we went to Comicpalooza! It was SO much fun!! There were famous people doing autographs, panels, booths with cheap comic books, and classes.

Here are a few people we saw:

Kevin Sorbo
From Hercules the TV show

George Takei
From Star Trek

We didn't go talk to them, since it was pretty costly to get an autograph or picture with them. So I just stood at a distance and took pictures. Lol

This place was an awesome people watching experience. I maybe weird, but I love people watching.
There were all kinds of people. Some were dressed up as super heroes, steam punk, there were roller derby girls...all kinds!

We saw this guy, I though his costume was impressive.
He was posing for a picture already, so I just snapped a photo.

One of the cutest moments was the little kids seeing guys dressed up as Iron Man and Captain America
and the look on their faces when they got to take a photo with them!
So adorable!
We even saw a little Hulk getting his picture taken with Iron Man. :)

One of the classes they had was Intro to Belly Dancing.
I thought what the heck, I don't know anyone, so if I look silly...who cares!
It turned out to be super fun!
The lady teaching it was great, she didn't allow any creeper guys to just sit and watch.
If they were there, they participated. :)
I didn't drag Joey to this one.
He looked at the booths while I was in the class.

We went to a few panels.
Some were tech/gaming talk and we went to a Tv star's panel as well.
It was really fun!

My favorite part, though, was the $1 comic books!!
Yes...$1!! So we stocked up. Usually comic books are $3.99.
So this was a great deal!!

We added 23 comic books to our collection.
We bought 2 sets of comics.
X-Men vs. Avengers from 1987 and Hellfire Club (X-men) from 2002.
Each had 4 issues, they were $6 each (half off).

We also got some comics for Joey.
(He's read Hulk vs. Avengers, Scarlet Spider, and Cable so far)

*Fun Fact: Scarlet Spider by Christopher Yost takes place in Houston!!*

That night we laid all our comic books out.
This is what we had :)

Since then I have finished all 4 graphic novels that are in the bottom right.
And we have added 6 comic books since this picture.
Mostly my Avengers vs X-Men comics, Scarlet Spider, and a few Hulk vs Avengers

If you can't tell I am defiantly a Marvel fan.
And I love the X-Men back story.
(There's a rich history!)

Since I ran out of X- Men graphic novels, Joey recommended a graphic novel he's had.
It's a DC graphic novel.
I'm reading that right now.
He got it from a friend a long time ago it's called Kingdom Come.
It has the Justice League
(Superman, Wonder Woman, Aqua Man, etc.)
We'll see how it ends!

Now that I've started reading comic books, I'm hooked!

I can read through a comic book or graphic novel much faster than a book.
Some of the Avengers vs X-Men I finish on the way home from the comic book store.
(Joey driving, of course)

The stories are so good too!
So I can't wait to get the next issue or the next graphic novel!

So there you have it, my new hobby...comic books! :)

Favorite Things Friday!

Happy Friday!!

I thought it would be fun to write a post each Friday (at least the Fridays I remember...) about my favorite things!

Today is the food edition!!

I like to eat. Sadly, my body is not nice to me if I just eat whatever I want, how ever many I want, and when I want. Thankfully I started using the app, My Fitness Pal...it helped me see how many more calories I was eating a day. Now I can eat what I want, but I do so more consciously. If I liked to exersise, I could eat more of the food I like! :) That's my logic anyways!

Anyways, onto some of my favorite food!

Had this for lunch today!
Whataburger...
one of the reasons I'm thankful to be a Texan!
Whataburger Jr, fries and a chocolate shake.
Their fries are SO good, as are their chocolate shakes!

My mom got me hooked on this flavor!
I love that it is only 5 calories and it's not a soda!
Raspberry lemonade is delicious!

Another drink I love are these!
I get the Diet Sparkling Cranberry.
It's fizzy, it's only 10 calories!
It is a perfect size for a snack.
Like with a stick of cheese.
I haven't gotten these in a while.
The store wants $3.99 for a 4 pack. Yeah. NO!
They are on sale at Kroger this week for $1.99!
So I got me a pack. Yum!
(I'm thinking about going back and getting me another pack...or two)

Other things that are my favorite lately... that I buy each time I go to the store.
- Oreos
- Blue Bell  Homemade Vanilla- I stir in Hershey's Chocolate syrup. Yummy!

I do eat healthy stuff too! Promise! :)

One of my favorite fresh snack is either Red bell pepper, cucumber, grape tomatoes or carrots and ranch dressing. I have carrots right now. Plus, if we don't eat all them and they go bad...the turtles get them. They love carrots.

Hope you enjoyed favorite things Friday! Have a fabulous weekend!

Life Lately

Wow...March was the last time I posted anything. Oops! I just haven't been in the blogging mood. I read other blogs...I just haven't felt like writing.

Well I've been keeping busy substitute teaching. I am still in the same school and position I have been in since January. Which is such a blessing!!

We have 5 1/2 more days till school is out!! I am looking forward to sleeping in for sure! I will miss the kids though.

Updates:
- Lucius is getting bigger, which I told him that was not allowed...he didn't listen
- Nemo is so fluffy that he looks bigger and older than Lucius, even though he isn't!
- Daisy is now hissing at Nemo...well she's been doing this for a while. Not sure what her beef is with him.
- Nibbler (our turtle) laid some eggs yesterday. Got home to a cloudy tank. She and Tardy ate their young. That's not the first time.
- I have become a comic book addict. More on that later!
- We went to see The Avengers twice and loved it each time!
- I had a job interview today! It went well, we'll see what God has in store for me! :)

Now for pictures!

This is now how I try on clothes.
It seems that I'll get an outfit on, think I look adorable...
till I see a photo of myself. Then I regret the outfit choice.
Ta-Da! No more problem!

Lucius snuggling :)

The boys' first time outside!
Their goal...to eat every single blade of grass.

Sharks!
Love the adorable shark one of the students drew (bottom picture)

I got my rings cleaned!
About time! 3 years!
I still can't get over how shiny they are now!
Like brand new! :)

Watermelon Bubble Tea!
(basically watermelon and ice)
YUM!

(sorry about the flash)
We got a new cover for our futon!
Best $28 spent!
It came with the pillow covers and inserts!
Got to love IKEA!
P.S. Our kitties already broke in the new cover.
Next morning after getting it...Joey found a hairball on it. Awesome.

My cousin got married this past weekend.
This was the beautiful and adorable church she got married in!
It was in Plantersville (Tx), out in the country.
It was so pretty!
There was also a gorgeous, old (falling down) barn that was covered in a flowering vine.
I wanted to take a picture of it, but didn't get a chance.

I have more photos and things to write about. I'll do that soon. I finally feel like posting/writing again! :)

Have a great night!

Wow! I haven't linked up in a while! I still took a couple of pictures though! :)
I am linking up to The Pleated Poppy, of course!

I thought I should wear my boots while it was still cool!
It doesn't stay cold long in Texas!

Boots: from a sale on 6pm.com ($15)

My wristlet I won from Gussy Sews!!

I'd been eyeing her things for a while and now I finally own something by her!
I am so thankful!

Lucius, A wedding, and other things

Hello!

Man, I really stink with this blogging thing! I want to write a post, then I don't feel like writing. I finally got my photos from my phone onto my laptop.

Well, I've been keeping busy. I am substitute teaching for a special education class. I am a substitute paraprofessional, I take care of one boy all day. I like it! :) I started right after Christmas break (Jan 3rd) and  I am told that I will be there till the end of the school year!!

In January we got a new kitty!

His name is Lucius. He is 1 1/2 years old (between the ages of Daisy and Nemo)

Attempting to get his photo

Take 2

Ok. He is a really active kitty!

Finally got one as he slept.
Here he is sleeping next to Daisy.
(He's the brown tabby)

He blends in awesomely in our house.
We brought him home, introduced him to our kitties (by having him in a cage so they could smell him).
Let him out within 10 minutes!
No hissing, no fighting.
Daisy seemed to not care...which is rare! She's a diva!

He is a blessing!
After we got him, we found out he was at BARC before transferring to CAP (which is where we got him).
Well the BARC in Houston recently got busted for animal cruelty.
So it was basically an animal death camp.
Not good.
So for him to get transferred and then for us to get him is a blessing!
He is such  a sweet baby!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

My best friend also got married in January! She made such a beautiful bride (inside and out)! We played together when we were babies, went through school together not really hanging out, then our senior year I found out she was going to go to HBU like me. I asked her if she wanted to be roommates and she said yes. That was the beginning of a beautiful friendship! :)

Getting ready, her sister was lacing her dress up.

Joey and I at the reception
He is so handsome!
:)

Us being silly as my mom tried to take our picture!

I loved my bridesmaid dress! Such a gorgeous color! :)

I didn't take anymore photos, I was too busy celebrating!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am so happy with how my Valentine's mantel turned out! :) I still have it up, since I think it's too early to bust out the Spring stuff.
Red and Aqua
I love using different colors, than what is expected, for holidays.
For Christmas I used aqua and silver.

I spray painted wooden candlesticks a pretty teal color.
(They were supposed to be for my Etsy shop, but I am pretty fond of them!)
I painted the frames.
Then the middle one I got some twine and mini clothespins so I could display vintage
Valentines from my great grandma!
I love those Valentines! I have a shoe box of them!
They have my great grandma's name on them and who they are from! :)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
We were in Galveston last weekend, visiting Joey's dad and granddad. We had to go to the hardware store. It was one of those cool, independent owned ones! I found this awesome scale in the back and had to take a picture of it!

That's all for now!

I have tomorrow off! I'm excited, I plan to get stuff done around the house and then have lunch with my hubby! Have a great week!

A look at 2011

Wow! 2011 is over! It seemed like it just started! Time sure does go by faster as you get older!

Our 2011 had some really really awesome points and some not so awesome.

December 2010- I graduated from Houston Baptist University!

January- Joey and I celebrated our 2nd anniversary!

May- I also opened my own Etsy shop
I named it in honor of my great grandma.
She loved butterflies.

July- Yao passed away.

I was asked to be a bridesmaid in my best friend's wedding (January 7th!)

August-  We got Nemo!
I also took a random 4th grade substitute job.
I actually doubted if I should take it.
I took it, was asked to come back for 2 more weeks after that day!
I also got offered a long term substitute position in another district.
I didn't get it.
I was upset, but soon realized that God had something better for me!

September-
Because of the random 4th grade sub job I took the month before
I was asked to do a long term position at that same school!
I took the job, not knowing how long it would last.
It lasted until the Christmas break!
An awesome unexpected blessing!

October-  Joey had some awesome things happen at his job!
This was (and still is) such a blessing to us!
God is so good!

November- Traveled to New Orleans for a wedding
I have never been there before.

December-
Joey and I celebrated 9 years of being together!
We started dating December 2002 :)

Sadly,we had to put Burney to sleep.
However, he is not in pain anymore.

The year had an emotional end. It was hard to think of what amazing things had happened until Joey reminded me. This time last year (2011) we were facing the looming cloud of student loans that were to come. We were in a situation that I had to get a job or a ton of sub jobs so we didn't have to worry about our finances.

God provided. He provided us with more than we expected! Me getting that long term substitute position was something we had hoped for, but was not sure if one would ever be available to me. If I would have never taken that 4th grade substitute job at that school, I never would have gotten the opportunity to get the long term job! It amazes me how God works things out like that! Then on top of that, God blessed Joey with some great opportunities at work!

It was all God and God alone!

We are so thankful!

I hope everyone had a great start to the New Year so far!

We did! We spent New Year's day with my dad and step mom, celebrating Christmas, New Years, and my dad's birthday! Yep, my daddy was a New Year's baby! :)

May 2012 be an awesome year for you!
I am excited to see what adventures God has in store for Joey and me!
